Wrongful Death Claim Linked to J&J’s Talcum Powder

Introduction

A man filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana claiming his mother developed ovarian cancer following the use Johnson & Johnson’s Talcum Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower product for feminine hygiene purposes, which finally resulted in her death. The man states his mother used the Talcum powder for over 25 years. Allegations include that J&J, Imerys Talc, and other defendants had the knowledge of the increased risk of ovarian cancer associated with the genital use of the talc-based body powder, yet they continued to actively market the safety of the product to users and failed to inform about their associated health hazards.

The defendants maintain their products did not cause any harm and show no intention of offering any settlements for ovarian cancer lawsuits. They face nearly 7,000 Talcum Powder lawsuits nationwide.

Talcum ovarian cancer lawsuits were centralized in 2016, as a part of MDL No. 2738- in re: Johnson & Johnson Talcum Powder Products Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, presided by Hon. Freda L. Wolfson, U.S.D.J. / Hon. Lois H. Goodman, U.S.M.J., in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey; hundreds of similar lawsuits are filed in Missouri 22nd Circuit Court, St. Louis, including California and Delaware state courts.
